Sanja Matsuri or Sanja Festival, is one of the three great Shinto festivals in Tokyo. It is considered one of the wildest and largest. The festival is held in honor of Hinokuma Hamanari, Hinokuma Takenari and Hajino Nakatomo, the three men who established and founded Senjo-Ji. Sanja Matsuri is held on the third weekend of every May at Asakusa Shrin. Its prominent parades revolve around three mikoshis (three portable shrines referenced in the festival's name).

One of the pleasure of any festival is the varied food on offer! If you can forget the fact that you are being ripped off by virtually everyone, it will be a fantastic experience for all senses, and especially the tastebuds!!
